Manufacturing
About the Industry
The manufacturing sector has historically received less attention, but there’s been a growing awareness of the importance of implementing Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) in this industry.
In manufacturing plants, vital resources include facilities, machinery, infrastructure, and supplies, alongside industry engineers, technicians, and skilled workers who operate the systems. Beyond physical assets, manufacturers rely heavily on the continuity of their supply chains. The Just-in-Time (JIT) model adds complexity to their recovery efforts, as raw materials must arrive promptly to ensure uninterrupted production, and finished products must reach customers on time to prevent disruptions and associated penalty charges.
BCP Asia's Experience
Some of BCP Asia’s consultants started their career in the Manufacturing industry – Multinationals. With this experience they have knowledge on how production works, critical resources flow, and tight quality control in manufacturing plants and how it operates locally, regionally or globally. Over the years, despite changes in the industry, the core of the services such as supply chain management and warehousing still remain.
BCP Asia only started development of ITDR, ERM and BCM program for manufacturing plants in 2010. We have run projects for more than 30 manufacturing plants in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, China and Indonesia. To keep costs low, manufacturing plants are now moving to developing countries where resources and infrastructure may be challenging to obtain. Manufacturing plants can be impacted by many external risk factors such as weather and natural disasters that can cause supply chain disruption and suppliers default. When facing such situations, what plans can minimise the impact of such disruption?
